Cornwall is riding high following the news that the county’s bid to host one of the world’s largest and most compelling sporting events has been successful. Rescue 2010, the World Surf Lifesaving Championships, is coming to Cornwall!
Held every two years, the World Surf Lifesaving Championships attracts 6000 young people from 55 nations around the world, all with a sporting prowess and selfless dedication to saving lives at sea. Competing athletes will be joined by a further 40,000 visitors who are expected to pour into Cornwall during June and July 2010 to witness the spectacle, placing Cornwall firmly in the international spotlight.
Cornwall follows in the footsteps of the USA, Australia and Germany, who have hosted the championships in previous years (Berlin, Germany in 2008) and enjoyed outstanding international success. Thanks to a spectacular landscape and natural affinity with the sea Cornwall is expected to repeat previous successes.
